5 days in New York, New York 🚕

I'm still recovering from the most amazing trip to this concrete jungle where dreams are made of ♫

It's been a bucket list wish to spend NYE in NYC, and I'm so glad we got to celebrate an amazing 2018 and see in 2019 here.

Peaks in pictures:

Peaks:

Without meaning to or realising it we walked an insane amount exploring the streets (although I wish I had done that 86k in steps wearing proper walking shoes now because I've strained muscles in my legs!). The crisp fresh air + blue skies + sun on face feeling made for an adventurous holiday. The geography is genius and blew my mind. I loved watching the bright lights come alive in the evenings, fun festive decor and joy, happy tourists crowding the streets, competitive architecture and perfect fluffy pancakes. The art collections at MoMA and The Met brought back my favourite childhood memories, and getting lost for hours in Central Park and being schooled in Chess by Eric while listening to Colin play the piano in Washington Sq Park are incomparable.

Pits:

£££: Menu prices don't include taxes and ~20% tips are practically mandatory (even in convenience stores where we are doing everything ourselves!); when these are added on, you can find yourself paying close to USD 7 for a small coffee. High-street coffee isn't great, and there is a real fast-food culture in the US that means a lot of the accessible / affordable food tastes processed even if it's advertised as fresh/healthy. Of course, the 'pre-book-award-winning-uptown' eateries are great, but it'll be hard to maintain that lifestyle if you're on a budget. Ps. The city is lit up at night, but the streets are much more matte (with scaffolding) in daylight.
