Retrospective Internship
Thought of the day today:
If a student asks for advice on what subject to study purely for them to get a job such as consultancy, operations, and maybe even accountancy, what would be your answer?
Me personally? My answer is straightforward. If your chosen career path doesn't specify prerequisites, study any subject you enjoy (yes, I really mean any). Show that you can learn, understand and apply knowledge accurately and passionately: that is the core skill applicable for these careers. If they go on to say they cannot identify a subject that they would like to pursue in further education, I would genuinely advise getting out of education as soon as possible and pursuing vocational options instead.

If there isn't a subject that you are passionate about studying, then I think you should be ruthless and pursue a career or internship in a fast paced institution that offers one. Work in a position where you can feel the benefits of a stable job with good hours and suitable pay. This will allow you to come home after a day at work with money in your pocket (i.e. not have to scrimp and save), be able to go out, and have the work-life balance that students always want but never really achieve until they are under (or over, depending on your personality type) the pressure of upcoming exams.
Good luck! I'm sure not everyone will agree with this advice though ;-).
Yours,
